I recently embarked on a two-week journey to the twin cities- Minneapolis-St. Paul- in Minnesota. My plan was to explore the city, get to know it, make connections, rock shows, and record an EP at The Brewhouse Recording studio in Minneapolis. I stayed with one of the guys I recorded with who used to be a promoter in Orlando (my home) but is originally from Minneapolis. He lives in South Minneapolis, in a beautiful area.
My two weeks there were beyond amazing. I rocked a show with St. Paul’s notable and classic band, Heiruspecs and I ended up getting to open for the legendary EPMD. I connected with local artists such as Carnage The Executioner, MaLLy, Dessa, Kevin Beacham (DJ Nikoless), Toki Wright, Greg Grease, ECID, and more. I even got to kick it at Eyedea’s home (RIP) and got to enjoy some of his mom’s homemade chili.
I experienced Soundset for the first time and although it was a rainy day, it’s there that I was able to connect with Eyedea’s mother. My favorite performance experience at Soundset 2015 would have to be watching the BBoys get down while DJ Babu spun records. I also got to see Ice Cube rock for the first time in my life. He still got it..I guess. Haha.
My favorite food experience in the twin cities would have be the night we ordered Pizza Luce after a show. Delivery. Although I was a little drunk, I knew the pizza was delicious. We got this mediterranean veggie joint and it was cooked to perfection and incredibly flavorful. The crust wasn’t all that great but I’m extremely picky and the rest of the pizza tasted banging!
Conshus (of Orlando’s Hip-Hop radio show, OUR Show) came up to Minneapolis about a week into my trip. He came to interview some twin cities artists and just connect with the scene, like me. It was cool being able to merge some of our outings and help each other at times. He filmed a video of me performing with Heiruspecs which I will attach to this post. Go to www.itsourshow.net to see the interviews and trip updates he blogged. He’s got some good stuff in there.
Anyway, I plan on going back to the twin cities at the end of August. Hopefully, will set up a nice little run of shows and get some more recording done. I thoroughly enjoyed recording at The Brewhouse Recording studio. It’s legit. Thanks for keeping up with me. Hoping to get my blog way more active than it has been. Keep in touch!
